Quick Tip: How to teach a correct pencil grip

Sometimes the best tricks for teaching small children come in the form of how you present tools.

Rather than present a pre-school or kindergarten age child with a long pencil, instead give them a shortened pencil, 1/2 of a crayon, or even 1/2 a piece of chalk.

The shorter sized item forces a child to hold the pencil, crayon piece, or chalk with the fingertips only, thus avoiding the development of an incorrect grasp.
